Acadian Kayaker

This small painting is based on several photos that I took during a visit to Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island last October. Of course the tree colors were spectacular at that time and I have done a number of other paintings focused on that beauty. The location for this view is a river estuary as you cross onto Mount Desert Island before entering Acadia National Park. The leaf colors and reflections were outstanding here and attracted many photographers creating a small traffic jam with people competing for the limited parking space. It was also a location where paddlers put in their kayaks and canoes. I focused on this activity for part of my photo time there and built this painting from those references. The piece came together quickly after the composition effort of cropping and positioning the kayak. It is a small piece but I am happy with the result. It is framed using a dark float-style frame that displays the work especially well.
