This month’s painting depicts a scene I came upon in the Chicago Art Institute last fall. A docent was leading a group of school children through the museum stopping at various paintings to discuss important aspects of the work. The children were extremely attentive and completely absorbed in discussion of the art. I was able to get several photographs of the group and used them as a reference for this painting. While it is a very different scene than last month’s painting, Beach Girl, it has a related origin. Both are fleeting images that last seconds at most. Capturing a photograph at the right instant is a matter of being ready and luck. In this case I was able to capture the spirit of the children’s interest in their response to a question posed by the docent. You never know when a great subject will present itself.
The painting would be available framed for $500. |
