This is a pastel work done in my studio from a
calligraphy marker sketch and photos taken during a trip to Petoskey,
Michigan a couple of years ago. It was a brilliantly sunny day with
deep shadows typical of the short warm season in that part of the
country. The complex shadows cast by the group of bicycles contrasting
with the brightly painted shops caught my eye. Unfortunately the
slowing economy has effected this area more seriously than other parts
of the country. The gallery in Petoskey, which handled my work, has
been forced to close.
